Zach's blogpost #9

A plant breeder would generally have to take really good care of the plant, by watering it, giving it nutrients and other essential stuff that the plant may need for survival.  Keeping them with out pest repellant (organic) Is always a better option for them to grow to their fullest potential. All of these processes must be followed to get the same stem when breeding plants.

GATTACA essay
Like the holocaust decades before, GATTACA explores a new type discrimination through imperfect genes. Through GATTACA the main character Vincent goes through discrimination because he was expected to die due to a heart condition. The topics I will explore deeper are how GATTACA still has natural conceiving, and how imperfect genes can be discriminated against.
The first topic of relating to how sinister this new form of racism is natural conceiving. The generation that we live in right  now has so many imperfect people that do wonderful things. IN GATTACA people always wanted the best child. I believe that having a kids who finds true happiness in life is the best child that you can have. NO matter what they do or how badly they do it. In the movie natural conceiving was how Vincent was born. They knew from the start that he had a heart condition so in a way they gave up on him. After Vincent they were wanted to have a baby created in the lab. These things like giving up on your child is not how a society should function.
Next I will explore deeper how imperfect genes can be discriminated against. Like Vincent and others since they have no chance of living a full life they will then be thrown away by the society in the movie. Vincent is basically forced to be a janitor. However through his imperfect genes he decided to get up and follow his dream. His dream was to go to space and that is what he did. His imperfect genes also showed that he can beat anybody at anything. LIke how he beat his brother in the swimming competition.
The reasons that a society should never function like this is because it has flaws of discrimination. Just like how back hundreds of years ago our society was racist toward african americans. This movie explores a new racism through genes.

Broccoli.  It came from two living/biotic cells.

Haley Schlaick #8

I learned how a plant grows and what it looks like in its stages.  The thing that surprised me was that it was so big and thats what brocolli looks like. I didnt really laugh becuase growning a plant really isnt all that funny. What made me pause and think a little deeper is the fact that broccoli is so big.

More cells are formed in mitosis so the plant needs to get bigger.  The cells split apart from photosynthesis. The nucleic acid helps the plant grow because its in the nucleus and it makes more cells and when there are new cells the plant starts to grow and with photosynthesis the plant also turns green and thats how a plant grows.

The plant got bigger. It looks about 7 inches and its green with quite big leaves for its size. They use water to stay hydrated and when they drink water they stay green. The plants obsorb water through there roots which makes them grow bigger.  They go through photosynthesis and they take in the carbon. They take in carbon  and cellular resperation. They obsorb nitrogen through the ground through assimilation.
